The hardest thing to do when selling or buying a home is to keep your emotions out of the decision making process. What I mean by this is that you are selling a house that you lived in for years or decades and Its been the place were your children grew up. It’s a place were you hosted holidays, major events with so many special people, and so many first things in your life. Home is were everything happens with your family and all of your loved ones over the years. The memories are priceless and there are so many its hard to keep track. When you are ready to start a new chapter in your life with a new home whether up-sizing or down-sizing this can be an incredible time for you and your family. If its your first home or your second home you want to make sure its perfect for all your current and future dreams and needs. This type of purchase is constantly pushing you toward one emotion to another and some times at a pace you are not ready for. It can become very overwhelming and stressful causing emotional overload before you know it. I learned this very quickly when I got into real estate years ago. When I was a new Realtor and started working with sellers and buyers I learned very quickly about the extensive levels of emotions clients will have during the entire process. If you want to be a great Realtor, (as I wanted too) you need to learn how to work professionally and effectively with clients on a business decision mindset reducing the emotional decision mindset. Now, I am not saying don`t have any emotions when you are selling or buying a home, I am saying there is a way to buy or sell with the business mindset making your decisions and the emotions more balanced.
Here is how you work with the business mindset and the emotional mindset. First, find the best Realtor for you. One that you like, has a plan for you and has done enough transactions to understand the process inside and out. You will genuinely feel that he will do the best for you and your family. I would recommend staying away from hiring a family member or good friend, I have heard too many horror stories over the years. It is also mandatory to interview each Realtor! Then, compare as best as you can apples to apples. We Realtors all get licensed the same way but that is were it ends. We are each our own company out there serving the real estate clients and industry differently. You want to find out those differences before you get started selling or buying real estate. I work with Real Estate agents daily and believe me we are all different, it is one of the most diverse groups of people I know.
The method and systems I’ve developed over the years will make sure my clients are making the best decisions with a balance of emotions by creating a plan before we start. Whether you are a selling or buying I spend time with my clients to learn about them, what they what to achieve and how they want to achieve the sale or purchase. I want to know all the how, when, why, where, and who before we get started. Once I get all their important information I work to create the perfect plan to achieve my clients goals and dreams, and we do it every time! We create the plan and then bring it to market ready to execute. Most importantly, we are all on the same page from the start of the process. We know what we need to do, when we need to do things, and we eliminate any issues or concerns before we get started. We some times need to make adjustments but they are always minor, making my clients more comfortable to any adjustments. Now, if the market will not support the plan my client wants to achieve we then sit on the sidelines till the market is ready for our plan. That means I start tracking and watching the market daily and weekly until it changes to meet our plan. I have worked with clients for years monitoring the market until it`s ready for our plans. With a professional plan from the start my clients are in a business mindset from the start and you would be surprised how effective they are once in the market and how much better they make decisions. I will always give them the market data, neighborhood data, MLS data, title data, assessor data, and property data and then I will offer my thoughts. But the final decision comes from my clients. Yes their decision is made with a business mindset.
